China has received nearly 4 million U.S. dollars in quake aid and donations and condolences from almost 200 countries, and international and regional organizations, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu Wednesday.

Her comments came in response to a question on international aid to China after the devastating quake hit the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu in northwest China's Qinghai Province a week ago.

"By 5 p.m. Wednesday, 148 countries, 34 international and regional organizations have extended condolences to the Chinese government and people," said Jiang.

Some countries, including Japan, the Republic of Korea, France, the United States, Norway, Thailand and New Zealand, had offered about 3.96 million U.S. dollars in aid and donations, she added.

"We sincerely appreciate the attention and support from the international community," said Jiang.

The Chinese government was going all out in rescue and relief work, and she believed the people of the quake area would get over the disaster and difficulties and rebuild their homes with the efforts of compatriots and support from the international community.

As of Tuesday, 2,064 were confirmed dead and 12,135 were injured in the quake.
